Carrying and working, told apart

The teal curve is how far the view departs from moving as one piece; the shaded bands mark its strongest stretches. That is what separates carrying from working. Grip an object and swing the arm, and everything in view travels together, so the curve drops — contact never breaks, but nothing is being done to the object. Press it, fold it, turn it over, and the curve rises. A head-mounted camera gives you no such signal, because it does not share a rigid body with the hand.
